THE JOB
What a tank adds to a team
Walking in first is only part of the role. A useful tank forces a response, lands crowd control or blocks the route to an allied marksman or mage. Durability matters because it gives the team time to act, not because damage taken is a goal on its own.
Tank does not mean one fixed position. The roster includes roam specialists as well as dual-role heroes that can cover EXP lane or jungle. Check the lane on each profile before assuming two tanks will solve the same draft problem.
Three tank jobs to separate
Engage
Start with reliable control when teammates are close enough to follow. Going in alone gives the enemy a target, not a difficult decision.
Peel
Hold an ability for the assassin or fighter diving your back line instead of spending every cooldown at the opening.
Claim space
Move through dangerous ground first and close approaches so ranged allies can deal damage from a safer position.
