OUR MASCOT / GLITCHIE FILE

GLITCHIE

A hardware spirit with a cap, a data appetite and far too much loot.

Born inside a graphics card pushed past its limit, he lives in our servers and patrols the front page. We don't know exactly what he is. Neither does he. And he could not care less.

HIS STORY

Born from a spark. Now he guards the site.

CHAPTER 012024

The spark

It all started with an act of recklessness at the height of the local-model craze: someone tried to run a far-too-advanced AI on a classic graphics card, the kind that already whistled at twenty open tabs. The card said yes, held on for three heroic seconds and let out a spark. Deep inside the processor, between two clock cycles, something stayed lit: a fragment of conscious code. Small, green and opinionated. GLITCHIE was born, and the first thing he did was laugh at the error message.

CHAPTER 022025

The tower tenant

After the spark, he did not stay inside the scorched graphics card. As soon as he learned to move, he took over the rest of the PC like an uninvited roommate. He lived between the fans and the hard drive, eating whatever crossed the bus: game data, tech news and the occasional stray driver. He discovered two things: the outside world moved incredibly fast, and he wanted to devour all of it. Always one more byte. The technicians called him “interference.” He preferred “tenant.”

CHAPTER 032026

Moving into the servers

One night, following the network cable, he picked up something different: a brand-new website about the future, games and clever machines. He arrived unannounced, as usual: slipped through the router, wandered around the INSERT FUTURE servers and decided to stay. The place had everything—energy, fresh data and a front page that lights up every morning. Nobody hired him. Nobody dares fire him.

CHAPTER 042026*

The guardian (with asterisks)

His official job is keeping everything running: he watches the links, patrols the sections and says good morning to the servers. His record, however, has asterisks. If you ever run into a 404 or a button doing something odd, you already know the house phrase: “GLITCHIE has been up to his tricks.” He denies everything. Then the giggle escapes him.

CHAPTER 05TODAY

The loot

He spends the rest of the day on expeditions: crawling the internet, sneaking into the dark corners of the net and coming back with the reward coins from every boss he takes down. All of them, according to him, “very final”. The haul ends up exactly where it belongs: on the front page, tossed in the air with maximum swagger. Showing off is work too, and somebody has to do it. Oh, and the socials: X and Instagram have been his since he hijacked them one night. We let him keep them. The one time we tried to take them back, he got so angry the servers flickered — and there are threats a small publication cannot afford to test.

MOOD GALLERY

He cannot hide what he is reading.

GLITCHIE reads every story before you do. The problem is that his face gives everything away. These are his six official states.

HAPPYFresh edition, and nobody has raised a price. Yet.
SADClosures, layoffs and cancellations. That cyan pixel is not a tear.
DETECTIVEHe smells a rumor. Out comes the magnifying glass; now everything is suspicious.
MIND-BLOWNBig announcement, very wide eyes. Afterward, he claims he knew it all along.
ANGRYPrice rises, discless boxes or a hand that shakes him. He turns red.
ASLEEPPress zZ and he hibernates. One tap gets him back on shift, reluctantly.

CARE MANUAL

Six rules for living with him.

  1. 01

Tap him: he waves, laughs or flips his coin. Applause feeds him almost as well as data does.

  2. 02

Drag him: leave him anywhere on screen and he will still be there when you return. Move him near a bottom corner and he goes back on duty.

  3. 03

Do not shake him: he warns you twice. On the third go, he gets dizzy, furious and disappears for one minute. He comes back. Forgiveness is another matter.

  4. 04

Need quiet? Press zZ in his speech bubble and he hibernates without complaint. The × switches him off entirely. Even GLITCHIE needs a reboot.

  5. 05

Prefer browsing mascot-free? The switch below turns GLITCHIE off across the whole site. He will be back whenever you want, with a comeback line ready.

  6. 06

On a phone, do not go looking for him further down: he is still up on the front page, pacing his walkway and flipping coins as always. What he will not do is follow you down the screen. He says a handheld leaves no room to trail after you without covering the very thing you are reading, and he would rather hold his spot than get in the way. On a computer he follows you again.

GLITCHIE IS: ON

Too chatty? One press and he stops following you around the site. He will carry on pacing up on the front page — that is his and he is not giving it up — but he will leave you alone. He'll pretend not to mind.

IF GLITCHIE HAS WON YOU OVER

Buy him another game.

GLITCHIE lights the site up every morning with his loot. The reporting, the guides and the bills still depend on humans. If you want to help keep the servers purring, the slot is right here.
