What August's VIP brings, piece by piece
The VIP — that's what the Spanish version of the game calls each month's Starlight pass — has its August poster. The star is Aulus Starwake Corsair, dressing the fighter as a space war general with corsair flair and debuting bespoke visual effects on his enhanced basic attacks, his second skill and his ultimate, as GamingonPhone rounds up. The pass bundle also includes 300 Crystals of Aurora on purchase, an exclusive trail effect, the corsair's sacred statue, a kill notification, graffiti, chat bubble and matching avatar border.
There are two extra hooks. First-time pass buyers get a chest with a random summer skin for Hayabusa, Chang'e or Nana, and only paying members can add the Starwake Reaver variant for 100 extra diamonds. The Starlight shop, meanwhile, keeps ten random skins at 3,000 fragments and the annual exclusives at 5,000.
The rest of August comes loaded, and there are freebies
The pass is just the month's cover. August's leaks and announcements include the long-awaited Kaja rework on the 5th, with a new flight mechanic and an ultimate that now traps several enemies in a circular radius, and the return of the Jujutsu Kaisen collab on the 7th, with refreshed versions of the Gojo skin for Xavier, Megumi for Julian, Nobara for Melissa and Itadori for Yin. Later come Balmond's mecha collector Vulcan Lionheart and Odette's zodiac Virgo on the 22nd.
And the best part for non-spenders: starting today you can get Gloo's Abominable Snowman elite for free — yes, the 69%-ban-rate tank — in the Rank Party event, plus a Kadita elite without opening your wallet.
And Aulus — is he worth it beyond the costume?
Honesty time, because the costume doesn't raise the win rate: on our season ladder, Aulus sits on the C step with a 50.6% win rate on the current patch. He's an honest jungle fighter who scales well if the match runs long, and his guide has the build, emblems and counters up to date in case the pass tempts you to bring him off the bench; also check who beats him before locking the draft.
The rest is calendar and wallet: the pass runs from today until 31 August, at 300 diamonds for the normal tier and 750 for premium with the skin included.
