New Snapdragon X2 Surface prices are here, but the Pro still needs a separate keyboard

Microsoft's compact Surface devices are moving to Snapdragon X2 Plus, with brighter displays and a new black finish. The company announced an October 13 launch in selected markets. The US 12-inch Surface Pro configurator starts at $1,149.99, while the 13-inch Surface Laptop starts at $1,199, before applicable taxes.

Those base configurations include the six-core X2 Plus, 16 GB of memory and 256 GB of UFS storage. The intended appeal is a portable Windows work machine. Nothing in the announcement establishes gaming performance.

Compare the Pro with its keyboard included

The Pro remains a tablet with a kickstand and detachable keyboard. Its $149.99 keyboard brings the starting total to $1,299.98 before tax. That is the more useful comparison with the Laptop if you expect to spend most of your time typing rather than using a tablet or pen.

The launch announcement lists 500-nit displays and up to 22.5 hours of local video playback for the Laptop. That battery figure comes from Microsoft's testing, not a measured day of browsing, calls and mixed workloads.

Check game compatibility before buying an Arm PC

Microsoft also introduced a separate Surface Mouse with haptic feedback and an action button. For readers who want to play games, the more important pre-purchase check is still software compatibility.

Microsoft's Windows on Arm FAQ warns that some games cannot work when their anti-cheat systems require unsupported drivers. A newer processor does not remove that dependency. Check individual games and the peripherals you rely on rather than assuming that a Windows label guarantees compatibility.

We have not tested these Surface devices. When independent results arrive, look at consistency and frame times alongside average FPS. For now, the clearest purchasing distinction is the form factor and complete price: the Laptop includes its keyboard, while turning the Pro into a typing-first computer costs more than its advertised starting price.
