Date, platforms and price: what's already official
Let's start with what Rockstar has confirmed in black and white, the part that doesn't shift with every rumour. Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preloading from 12 November. The PC version has no date: it'll come later, with no confirmed window, as has been tradition with every game in the series.
As for your wallet, the standard edition costs €79.99 and the Ultimate €99.99, with a detail worth knowing before you pre-order: the physical box ships with no disc, just a download code. And if you're still deciding on a machine, our which-console-to-buy-for-GTA-6 comparison is updated with August's prices, because the generation got more expensive right before launch.
Jason and Lucia: the pair breaking tradition
For the first time in the main series, GTA 6 has two playable protagonists and one of them is a woman: Lucia and Jason, a couple with an undeniable Bonnie-and-Clyde air. The first trailer already set the tone — two lovers trapped in Florida's underworld, pushing forward because they have no other choice — and Lucia starts out leaving prison, hinting at a story of second chances gone wrong.
Rockstar has been deliberately stingy with the rest of the cast: beyond the couple, there are no officially confirmed names, only faces appearing in the two trailers — like the unhinged Cal Hampton, Jason's friend — that the community has spent months trying to identify. It's their usual way of working, reveal little and let the hype fill the gaps.

Leonida and Vice City: Rockstar's biggest map
The game takes place in the fictional state of Leonida, Rockstar's take on Florida, with Vice City — its own Miami — as the urban heart. It's the first time we've returned to Vice City since 2002, and everything points to the biggest, most detailed map the studio has ever made, with swamps, beaches, city and rural areas.
Here we have to separate wheat from chaff, because the exact map size, the number of cities and the open-world details remain officially unconfirmed. What the trailers have shown is a brutal jump in density: crowds, traffic, animals and a level of environmental detail that has fuelled theories about interiors and NPCs drawn from the company's patents.
The third trailer, the campaign and the noise around it
The news cycle rules, and right now all eyes are on the third trailer. The first came out in December 2023 and the second in May 2025, so we've gone over a year without new material; several insiders point to it landing this very week, perhaps 6 August, right before Take-Two's earnings call. If they're right, we'll update this page the moment it drops.
The road hasn't been free of controversy: the marketing campaign has drawn criticism, pre-orders are moving numbers hard to wrap your head around and social media has filled with fake AI-made gameplay videos worth learning to spot. With a launch this size, the noise is part of the landscape.
What we still don't know (and you should ignore until confirmed)
Let's be honest about what's missing, because it's as much as what's there. There's no PC date, no details on the online mode that will replace GTA Online, no official confirmation of map size or campaign length, and the supporting cast is a mystery. Anything you read on these points, as of today, is speculation or a leak without Rockstar's stamp.
Our advice is simple: if you're unsure whether to pre-order, we already explained why there's no rush. Bookmark this page, because we'll keep it current with every official announcement — starting, with luck, with that third trailer that could drop any day this week.
