GTA VI will sell obscenely well. That doesn't make its campaign good

Rockstar opened preorders without trailer 3, unveiled the cover inside a short video and stuffed the editions with uninspired extras. The game will dominate, but the marketing is wasting the moment.

Rockstar has confused demand with enthusiasm

GTA VI is smashing preorder records, but a campaign can work at the till and still be badly planned. Preorders opened on 25 June after a 33-second date video: no trailer 3, no event.

The brand is so big any gesture generates millions — which is exactly the problem: Rockstar assumes the hype will do the work. The black trailer-1 date card once froze the internet for a week. That was real marketing.

The cover and the extras deserved far more

GTA covers are gaming culture — Rockstar used to hand-paint them on Manhattan walls. This one appeared inside a short video and vanished among preorder ads.

The disc-less physical edition opened another debate about digital ownership instead of celebrating the campaign.

Trailer 3 remains the bullet in the chamber

Rockstar is spending a decade of anticipation, not raising it. Trailer 3 should have accompanied preorders.

When? If Rockstar repeats its GTA V pattern, September–October, in time for the holiday push — finally showing real missions, heists, live switching between Jason and Lucia, and maybe the first hint of the online future. That video will exist. The question is why it didn't when it mattered.
