Google is changing which Gemini models personal accounts can use. From October 9, accounts without a Google AI subscription will have Flash-Lite rather than Flash or Pro, according to the company’s new access table. AI Plus keeps Flash and Flash-Lite but loses Pro.
The October 9 date applies to accounts without a subscription. AI Plus customers are to receive an email explaining when their own changes take effect. AI Pro and AI Ultra retain access to all three model families.
Check the plan name before paying for an upgrade
Pro the model and AI Pro the subscription are different labels. After the change, an AI Plus subscription will not include the Pro model. Google’s table lists model families without attaching a specific version number to each entry.
Review the plan attached to your account and the change notice before making a purchase. The distinction also matters for educational offers. Our student Gemini offer guide explains why an offer’s actual plan name determines what it includes. The access update concerns personal Gemini app accounts, rather than setting API or business-account terms.

Usage depends on the task, not just message count
Google describes usage limits in terms of computing resources. Prompt complexity, features and conversation length all affect consumption. Limits refresh every five hours until a weekly limit is reached, so equal message counts do not necessarily use equal amounts of the allowance.
Higher reasoning effort can spend the allowance faster, and paid plans have higher limits. Neither statement guarantees a fixed number of replies. If you use the official Gemini Windows app, check the available model on that account rather than assuming another device restores access.
