National Championship Air Races comes to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on October 13 as a free update for existing players. Microsoft confirms the date in its September 24 briefing, and NVIDIA’s October 6 announcement places the activity in Sim Update 7.
The free racing activity is separate from paid aircraft sold through the Marketplace. Owning the simulator is the relevant condition in Microsoft’s announcement, rather than buying every aircraft mentioned in the surrounding store updates.
DLSS changes are hardware-dependent
For GeForce PCs, NVIDIA lists a DLSS 4.5 upgrade. Super Resolution reconstructs the final image after rendering fewer pixels, lowering the GPU’s workload. RTX 50 systems also gain up to 6X Multi Frame Generation and a dynamic mode that adjusts the multiplier to GPU performance and display refresh rate.
Generated frames can make motion look smoother without multiplying flight simulation or input processing at the same rate. These options depend on the graphics card. A shared update number does not establish that every console version receives the PC’s DLSS features.

Public testing is separate from the final release
Microsoft’s October 1 briefing said public Sim Update 7 beta testing was ongoing. Joining those tests is optional, rather than a prerequisite for receiving the final update announced for October 13.
