Fortnite 42.40 began rolling out a redesigned Discover on October 15, adding video previews and more expressive island tiles. Creators face a separate deadline: new thumbnail and logo assets become required to publish or update islands starting October 22.
Players will receive the redesigned screen gradually
Epic’s Discover redesign announcement describes a phased release. Its updated presentation includes a video-fed hero carousel, muted previews in selected placements and portrait tiles in a Top 10 row. Receiving the screen at different times does not establish a problem with an individual account.
Separating artwork and logos lets the interface compose cleaner tiles. Like percentages and New or Updated labels can give players more information before opening an island. These are discovery changes, rather than an announcement of a new Battle Royale season.

Prepare the required image variants before October 22
Epic’s thumbnail documentation specifies 1920 × 1080 landscape images, 1440 × 1920 portrait images and a transparent 1440 × 608 PNG island-name logo. Creator Portal has separate artwork-only and artwork-with-logo upload slots.
Creator Portal separates two landscape and two portrait images, with artwork-only and artwork-with-logo versions in each orientation, plus the standalone logo. A gameplay-video slot is separate from the trailer. Promotional placements have their own trailer requirements, including General Audience suitability.

Custom abilities can now be used in published experiences
42.40 also takes Abilities and Fortnite Template Abilities out of Experimental and adds 50 permanent LEGO Brick Editor pieces.
For an existing island, review the new Creator Portal slots and prepare the required variants before submitting a publication or update from October 22. Follow the documented safe areas so the Discover interface does not cover key parts of the artwork.
