October 2. Ace Combat 8 returns to Strangereal
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve opens the month on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC with a campaign that returns to Strangereal. Bandai Namco casts the player as the symbol of an occupied nation, accompanied by three Joker Flight pilots, with battles built in Unreal Engine 5 and its proprietary Cloudly technology.
Bandai Namco sets the worldwide launch for October 2, while the Deluxe Edition begins access on September 29. It is the month's choice for a focused aerial campaign rather than another hundred-hour quest.
October 6. Gears of War: E-Day goes back to the beginning
Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return, although not to continue the story. E-Day covers Emergence Day, when the Locust broke through and the world had not learned how to fight them. The Coalition wants to restore the terror of those first encounters without losing the weight, cover and brutality that define Gears.
Xbox confirms October 6 for Series X|S, PC, Steam, cloud and Game Pass on day one. It is our candidate for a large but concentrated cooperative campaign.
October 6. Star Wars: Galactic Racer speeds across Jakku
Star Wars: Galactic Racer arrives the same day on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. There is no Force or prophecy, only an illegal championship born after the Empire's fall, with branching routes, takedowns and several classes of repulsorcraft. Jakku turns its graveyard of starships into a track.
StarWars.com confirms the date and platforms. Choose it over Gears when October needs speed and competition, although launching both major games on one Tuesday creates an awkward decision.
October 23. Modern Warfare 4 opens another front
Infinity Ward takes the war to the Korean Peninsula and sends Captain Price into a personal operation that collides with a conflict on a global scale. Modern Warfare 4 launches on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, with no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions.
The beta has provided a multiplayer test, but launch brings Campaign, DMZ and the rest of the package. Our Modern Warfare 4 minimum and recommended requirements clearly mark which figures still belong to the beta and what Activision needs to publish before October 23.
October 29. Phantom Blade Zero closes with steel
Phantom Blade Zero closes the month on PS5 and PC with Soul, an assassin who has 66 days to live, and combat inspired by Hong Kong kung-fu cinema. S-Game insists it is not a soulslike. It wants speed, weapons that change the rhythm and difficulty options ranging from Wayfarer to Sixty-Six Days.

If you can only buy one
Gears E-Day is the safest campaign and co-op choice, Ace Combat 8 offers the most distinct space, Galactic Racer takes speed, Modern Warfare 4 takes multiplayer and Phantom Blade Zero takes action combat. There is no universal purchase, but there is a sensible way to choose.
Do not preorder all five. Wait for reviews, decide what you will actually play during October and leave the rest for their first discounts. A release calendar does not reward finishing first. It only tries to convince us that everything expires on launch day.
