The next Elder Scrolls game finally has a name: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Bethesda revealed it on November 3 at the end of a video celebrating 40 years of Bethesda Game Studios, where studio head Todd Howard introduces a brief teaser. It's the first new look at the game since Bethesda announced it at E3 on June 10, 2018.
Howard explained the timing with a line that sums up eight years of waiting: "Everybody's always asking about Elder Scrolls 6." There's still no gameplay, no platform list and no release window. On X, the studio thanked fans for 40 years of shared memories, said development continues and warned that it will be some time before it has more to show.
The Hammerfell clue and the 4E 206 date
Bethesda never states outright that the game is set in Hammerfell, but that's the most direct reading. The studio's post on X says it is glad to finally share the name and the location, and Hammerfell is the only place the teaser names. It's the desert and coastal homeland of the Redguards, west of Skyrim, and Sentinel is one of its major port cities. Players have been there before in Daggerfall, the series' second game (1996), and in The Elder Scrolls Online.
The date is a clue too. On the series' calendar, 4E 201 means year 201 of the Fourth Era, when Skyrim takes place. Yazar's note, dated 4E 206, was written five years later. That doesn't prove the game starts in 4E 206, since Bethesda has only dated the passage, but it does place the story after Skyrim rather than before it.

What the earlier report got right
On October 30 we covered the report that Sentinel was the title and Hammerfell the setting, with a name-only reveal expected in November. The name and the November reveal held up, and the teaser points to the same setting even though Bethesda hasn't said so in as many words. The same report said the story would revolve around the Elder Scrolls themselves. The scroll in the teaser fits that idea, but Bethesda hasn't confirmed it.
Platforms haven't been announced. Microsoft, which owns Bethesda, now releases some of its games on PS5, but it hasn't said whether Sentinel will be one of them. There's no release window either. The latest official development update came in July 2026, when the studio said the game is its top priority, that it runs on Creation Engine 3, the new version of the in-house software foundation it builds its games on, and that the team is also working on the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters, which still have no date. Since the studio says more is some time away, don't expect Sentinel news soon.
