Steel Aces is running a free open-play test on PC this weekend. There is still time to join: the event ends on Sunday, September 27 at 6 p.m. Eastern or 3 p.m. Pacific. Those times correspond to 11 p.m. British Summer Time, the end of the developer's announced window.
The useful detail in the official announcement is that accounts and unlocks will be retained. You will not lose everything earned during the test simply because the weekend ends. That does not mean the game promises uninterrupted access after the open window closes.
Where to join and what you will be testing
Use the official Steel Aces website and follow its registration and download instructions rather than third-party key offers. Its press kit lists Windows and Linux. This is a PC test, not an announced console launch.
The game focuses on direct tank combat, without player-controlled aircraft or artillery attacking from outside those ground engagements. Positioning, cover and vehicle choice are central to the pitch. We have not played this build, so that description should not be mistaken for a judgment about its balance.
There is also a distinction between current and planned modes. The game's website describes Arcade with health points and lists Realistic as coming later. Component damage and a realism-focused pitch are not grounds to describe every current match as a simulation without health bars.

Progress retention is not the same as permanent access
Armative describes a model without paid competitive advantages, with commercial offerings aimed at progression and customization. That is the developer's position, not something we have independently verified. This test is a chance to decide whether vehicle handling, combat and progression are worth your time.
Keeping an account is also different from cross-save or cross-progression. The confirmed promise concerns accounts and unlocks from this event, not transfers to unannounced platforms. As with other online games, retained progress depends on an operating service and is not a replacement for playability after servers close.
The weekend deadline makes trying it time-sensitive. Recommending it over another tank game will take evidence from actual matches and a clearer view of how the commercial model works beyond this test.
