March replaces the November release date
Shadow of the Road now launches on March 10, 2027. Another Angle Games and Owlcat announced a delay from November 12, 2026 for the PC tactical RPG. Its Steam listing has already adopted the new date.
The developer says it needs more time to polish the game and will share progress over the coming months. The announcement describes unfinished work. It does not attribute the decision to another game’s release calendar.

The team is refining combat and party progression
The stated priorities include tactical encounters, combat balance and party progression. The developer wants to refine decisions involving positioning, initiative and abilities, alongside remaining technical problems.
Those systems depend on one another. A skill that dominates every encounter can reduce the reason to experiment with a party. Positioning and turn order need to affect the fight if they are to provide meaningful choices. These are development goals in the announcement, rather than improvements we can already evaluate in a finished release.

A supernatural Japan with turn-based battles
The RPG takes place in a fantasy version of Japan in 1868, combining samurai, supernatural creatures and industrial machinery. A party of characters, dialogue decisions and relationships accompany its turn-based encounters.
For another RPG to play before March, our PC and PS5 selection covers alternatives. Our Baldur’s Gate 3 review also provides a played example of how party choices can shape a campaign. Shadow of the Road’s own execution still awaits assessment.
