Raspberry Pi adds $12.50 to its 2GB Pi 4 and Pi 5 boards

The October 1 increase puts the 2GB Pi 4 at $67.50 and the Pi 5 at $77.50. The 1GB boards and 2GB Compute Modules keep their existing prices.

The 2GB Raspberry Pi 4 now has a published price of $67.50, while the 2GB Pi 5 costs $77.50. Both increases took effect on October 1 and add $12.50 to the previous price of each board, according to Raspberry Pi chief executive Eben Upton. Which prices changed

The increase takes the 2GB Pi 4 from $55 to $67.50 and the 2GB Pi 5 from $65 to $77.50. It leaves the published gap between those two boards at $10. That comparison covers the boards themselves, not a complete kit with matching accessories.

Upton says memory costs made the earlier pricing unsustainable. Raspberry Pi held the 2GB models steady during its April increases and now expects to lower prices again when the memory market improves, without committing to a date. Our guide to buying hardware now or waiting for Black Friday explains why a future promotion is not a guaranteed lower final price.

The 1GB boards and Compute Modules are unchanged

This announcement does not raise other Raspberry Pi prices. It explicitly exempts the 1GB versions of Pi 4 and Pi 5, along with 2GB Compute Module 4 and Compute Module 5. Those exceptions describe different configurations and, in the case of the modules, a different physical product.

The Compute Module 4 is designed to be built into other devices. It is not a Pi 4 Model B with the same ready-to-use external ports. A cheaper configuration only makes sense if its memory capacity and hardware format meet the requirements of the system you want to build.

Budget for more than the board

Raspberry Pi’s getting-started instructions require storage containing an operating system and a suitable power supply. A desktop setup also needs a display, keyboard, mouse and the appropriate cables. Include anything you do not already own when comparing a bare board with a kit.

Existing Pi 4 accessories may not all carry over to Pi 5. The Pi 5 product page says the Pi 4 case will not fit and recommends a different power supply. If external drives will connect through a hub, check the hub’s power supply and peripheral limits separately rather than assuming every accessory can share the same power budget.
