A September wave that spills into October
Microsoft has unveiled Xbox Game Pass's second September wave, although the label barely fits. Additions begin September 16 and continue through October 6, when Gears of War: E-Day launches directly into Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Planet of Lana II, Routine and Ultimate Sheep Raccoon open the wave on September 16. Kernel Hearts follows as a day-one release on September 17, while Ninja Gaiden 4 moves into Premium after already being available through Ultimate and PC.
Dune: Awakening and day-one release Well Dweller arrive September 22, followed by Mad King Redemption on September 23. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 joins Premium on September 25 while remaining in Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Game Pass is not one universal library: your tier still matters as much as the date.
The three dates worth remembering
Minecraft Dungeons II debuts September 29. The first game turned Minecraft into a welcoming dungeon crawler, and a subscription launch gives its sequel the widest possible pool of co-op partners. Keeper moves into Premium on October 2, before Gears of War: E-Day closes the wave on October 6.
Dune: Awakening is the other serious time sink. Its September 22 arrival lowers the cost of trying a survival MMO built around patience, alliances and a great deal of sand. Inclusion is not ownership, however: once a game leaves the catalog, you need to buy it to retain access.
There are extras around the edges too. EA Sports FC 27 gets a ten-hour trial on September 18, Sea of Thieves begins Season 21 on September 17 and Rematch enters Essential on September 25. Our guide to October's most interesting games covers the releases beyond the subscription.

What to play first
Planet of Lana II and Routine are the easiest smaller games to fit in before the heavyweights arrive. Marvel Cosmic Invasion and Ultimate Sheep Raccoon cover two very different kinds of co-op. Dune: Awakening and Minecraft Dungeons II are the games that deserve actual calendar space.
Our October 6 choice is obvious. E-Day is neither a remaster nor an expansion, but a prequel returning to Emergence Day with Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago. A simultaneous subscription launch removes the awkward wait of older eras and gives this wave a genuine headline finish.
Microsoft is repeating the useful part of July's Game Pass lineup: enough volume that nobody can play everything, paired with launches worth planning around. The best subscription library is not the one with the longest list, but the one that helps you find a game you will actually finish.
