DLC describes delivery, not size
DLC means downloadable content. It can be a twenty-minute mission, a character, cosmetics or a huge campaign. The term does not establish quality, length or price. It only describes content distributed separately from the main game.
An expansion usually adds substantial areas, story or systems, but it can also be DLC because it is downloaded. The boundary is commercial rather than technical. Our gaming dictionary collects these labels and other store terminology.
A season pass sells a bundle
A season pass grants access to several releases according to its own schedule. It is not a universal subscription and does not guarantee everything a game will ever publish. Cosmetics, later expansions or currency can be excluded.
Nintendo notes that announced expansion-pass content normally requires the full game, sold separately. Open the content, timing and requirement list in the store where you play before paying.
Complete does not always mean definitive
Gold, Deluxe, Ultimate and Complete editions are bundles defined by individual publishers. They may combine the game and pass, contain only cosmetics or include DLC released before a certain date. No label requires future expansions.
Compare product identifiers rather than names alone. If you already own the base game, a complete edition may duplicate that licence. Add up only what you lack and inspect every edition, as in our breakdown of GTA 6 editions.
Four questions before buying
Check whether the base game is required, exactly what is included, when each item becomes available and whether it works in your platform and region. Then see whether parts are sold separately and whether the pass is cheaper than their total.
Do not preorder an empty calendar through fear of missing out. When names, dates and scope are absent, the discount also buys uncertainty. A useful pass tells you what arrives. A good expansion can be judged by real content even when it belongs to no pass.
