Bad House opens its first two dungeon floors in a free Steam demo

Andrew Morrish’s dungeon crawler asks you to plan the fight and decide when to bring your loot home. The demo starts with Blake, with Rory available later.

You can now try Bad House’s first two dungeon floors for free on PC. The Steam demo, released on October 1, starts you as Blake and introduces Rory later. It is a single-player slice of a game built around preparing automatic battles, collecting equipment and getting back upstairs with your haul.

Bad House comes from Kingsway creator Andrew Morrish and publisher The Arcade Crew. Your new home comes with possessions abandoned by a previous tenant, plus a basement you are warned to avoid. The demo announcement puts the full PC release in early 2027, so this is an advance look at the dungeon rather than the finished game.

The fight depends on what you set up

The auto-battler label describes how combat works. Your chosen abilities and the objects you position in a room do the fighting automatically. The publisher’s description lists bombs, traps, spells and summons among the tools available, with character and skill choices made before the descent.

Blake can use melee attacks and magic, while Rory focuses on blood magic and critical-hit bonuses. You gain levels during an expedition and can improve or unlock skills along the way. Your build, the combination of equipment and abilities, shapes how your character handles each fight.

Loot only reaches safety when you do

Deeper floors offer stronger rewards, according to The Arcade Crew, but the game also lets you leave and bank your finds in the house upstairs. The storage chest holds recovered items for later use. That creates a decision beyond winning the next fight: keep searching for better gear or return with what you already have.

The changing basement is designed for repeated expeditions rather than a single route to memorize. Improving a skill during one trip and putting an item safely in storage serve different purposes. Our guide to roguelikes, roguelites and what survives between runs explains why that distinction matters when judging a game’s progression.

Use the demo’s own Steam page

Bad House Demo has a separate Steam listing with an Install Demo button. You can also reach it from the full game’s store page, which still shows a 2027 release window and says the game is not yet available. That notice refers to the full game, not the downloadable demo.

The official pages do not say whether demo progress will carry over into the full release. For now, the two floors offer a way to try the setup-and-extraction loop without assuming that any saved equipment will follow you into the final game.
