Reddit’s RSS feeds are scheduled to shut down on November 13, 2026. If you use a feed reader to collect new posts from subreddits, that connection will stop being supported. Reddit cites bulk scraping and automated abuse as its reasons for ending the feeds.
The company’s October 1 official recap points moderators toward replacement alerts and developers toward an app migration. Those routes serve different needs. This is a change to external tools, not an announcement that Reddit’s regular website and app will stop carrying the posts.
An alert service for moderators, not a general feed reader
Discord Relay runs on Reddit’s Devvit app platform and can forward posts, comments and moderation activity from a community to Discord or Slack. Each alert links back to the item on Reddit. You must moderate the community to set it up, so it is not a replacement for following arbitrary subreddits in an RSS reader.
Reddit’s setup guide requires full moderator permissions and permission to connect the destination channel. Keep that channel private to the moderation team: alerts may carry report details or moderation messages. Our explanation of Claude’s personal connectors in Slack covers the same distinction between access to a source and who can see a posted message.
Review an integration’s reading permissions and message destination before installing it. Our AI connector permissions guide explains how to make that check for assistants. For Discord Relay, select only the alert types your team actually needs.
Test the replacement before retiring RSS. With an item waiting in the mod queue, check that a notification reaches the chosen channel and opens the correct Reddit item. The queue scan runs once a minute. Repeat the check for each community and alert type you depend on before November 13.

Public API access follows a separate schedule
An API is the interface through which software requests data or performs actions on a service. Reddit’s developer announcement gives its public API a different timetable from RSS.
- October 31, 2026: Reddit stops accepting new requests for public API access.
- January 12, 2027: removal of access begins for apps and users that have not registered or responded to Reddit’s outreach.
- March 2027: remaining public access closes. Reddit has not named a specific day in March.

Registering a bot is only the start
Reddit wants existing tools to move to Devvit, where apps can react to community events and use Reddit-hosted data storage. Its migration documentation acknowledges that some older API capabilities do not yet map directly to the new platform. Registration identifies the app and gives developers a way to report those gaps. It does not make existing code compatible.
App maintainers should inventory the functions their tool uses, compare them with the migration guide and test the port before switching over. If your community relies on a bot you do not maintain, ask its developer about the plan. Reddit offers no equivalent replacement here for an ordinary reader following other communities through RSS.
Old Reddit has a different access test
Over the coming months, Reddit also plans to restrict its classic interface to signed-in moderators and other signed-in users who have used Old Reddit within the past six months. No exact start date is given. That recent-use requirement belongs to Old Reddit access, rather than the RSS shutdown or the bot migration timetable.
