Microsoft joins the project as publisher
Xbox has announced that it will publish PHYSINT, the action-espionage game in development at Kojima Productions. The move expands a relationship that began with OD and gives Microsoft a concrete role in production and bringing the project to market.
The announcement provides no date, platforms or new gameplay. It also does not explain how the agreement relates to PHYSINT's original reveal alongside PlayStation. Until the companies address that point, Xbox publishing is confirmed. Exclusivity is not.

The partnership also covers film and television
The agreement includes collaboration on film and television projects. That fits Kojima's description of PHYSINT as something between a game and cinema, but it is not an announcement of a specific film or series.
Kojima Productions already works across formats and has revealed PHYSINT's first cast members: Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok and Minami Hamabe. The official Beyond the Strand recap preserves that material without defining their characters.

What is actually known about PHYSINT
The studio calls it a next-generation action-espionage game. Hideo Kojima is returning to a genre closely associated with his career, but a name, three actors and concept art remain almost everything public. There is not yet a release window that places it firmly among the most anticipated games of 2026 and 2027.
The absence of gameplay makes it important to separate the business deal from creative promises. Xbox is publishing and Kojima Productions is developing. Platforms, pricing and timing all require further confirmation.
A deal built for the long term
The expansion confirms PHYSINT is an active production backed by a global publisher rather than a forgotten announcement. It also makes every future clarification about PlayStation and Xbox more consequential.
For now, this looks like a long-term bet rather than an imminent release. It can be considered alongside wider changes to Xbox, including the new Xbox Cloud Gaming hour limits, without mistaking a publishing agreement for a Game Pass promise.
