What you need before starting

No Man's Sky cross-save works across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Mac. You need the relevant platform account and must authenticate it through Hello Games. One account is enough for a same-ecosystem transfer such as PS4 to PS5.

Cross-save moves progress. Cross-play lets people on different systems play together. It also does not replace a game license, so you need access on every ecosystem you use. Our guide to cross-play, cross-save and cross-progression separates the terms.

Linking platform accounts

Open the official cross-save portal, start the setup and authenticate every platform you want to link. Hello Games creates a Hello User ID connecting those accounts. Verify the username. If the browser selects the wrong account, sign out at the platform website or use a private window.

Launch No Man's Sky on a linked platform. The latest save uploads automatically and becomes available elsewhere. The in-game Cross-Save Manager on the save-selection screen controls which copies are stored online.

Uploading and downloading saves

Cross-platform storage holds up to five saves. Select the empty cloud icon next to a local save to upload it. On another device, open Cross-Save Manager and download it locally. Let synchronization finish before closing the game.

When size or timestamp differs, the game asks which version to keep. Check the date and playtime rather than choosing instinctively. Keep a local or platform backup before replacing a long-running save when possible.

Removing a cloud save safely

Selecting the checked cloud icon removes that save from cross-platform storage without automatically deleting the local copy. Disconnecting every account from the Hello User ID is more consequential: the terms say it deletes server-side saves.

Verify that a local copy exists before unlinking. Hello Games also reserves the ability to change or remove the service, so cross-save is convenient synchronization, not the only backup you should trust.

Common issues and Cosmos compatibility

If a save is missing, confirm that both devices show the intended linked account and first open the platform holding the newest progress. Check the in-game manager before creating duplicate copies.

The No Man's Sky Cosmos update is free to existing owners across current supported platforms. Keep both installs updated because an older build may not understand save data written by a newer update.
