No Man's Sky finally turns space into a place: everything Cosmos adds

Update 7.0 lets players own stations, found alliances, build in open space and salvage hulks before they collapse.

The space overhaul that took ten years

Hello Games calls Cosmos one of its largest updates and has released version 7.0 free for existing No Man's Sky owners across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, Mac and VR. Instead of adding another planet, it rebuilds what happens between them.

A system map reveals asteroid belts, remote outposts, hulks, debris fields and natural platforms. The official patch notes say these points begin appearing after a save reaches the Space Anomaly, with a short mission introducing the system.

Owned stations, open-space bases and alliances

Players can buy a space station, decorate it inside and out, and use it as an alliance headquarters. Alliances connect member stations and compete on leaderboards for size, wealth and prominence, turning construction into a persistent social project.

Modular bases can also be built anywhere in space or on rocky platforms. Outposts offer salvage and delivery contracts, while owned stations consume recovered materials. The scale makes cross-play, cross-save and cross-progression especially relevant to this multiplatform community.

Spacewalks and timed salvage

Any pilot can now leave their ship through the quick menu. Spacewalking has true six-degrees-of-freedom movement while cold protection drains. Hulks can be stripped with the Gravitino Coil and a Corvette tractor beam, but falling structural integrity forces players to prioritize salvage.

Cosmos also adds ice fields, anomalies, infested outposts and a deliberately dangerous journey toward a system's star. The Our Journey Continues expedition revisits more than 40 major updates, unlocking Sean Murray commentary and nostalgic rewards.

What patch 7.01 fixes

Launch has not been flawless. Patch 7.01 is live on Steam and coming to other platforms, fixing falls through stations, missing decorations, tractor-beam issues, multiplayer problems, crashes and spacewalk camera bugs.

The update still needs polish, but its premise is coherent: No Man's Sky spent years improving destinations, and Cosmos makes the journey a destination too. Hello Games plans further fixes as issues emerge, making release notes worth watching during the first few weeks. Our No Man's Sky cross-save guide explains how to carry that journey across platforms.
