Samus returns on January 28, 2027
Nintendo confirms that Metroid Ravenous launches January 28, 2027, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. It is a single-player 2D adventure with HDR and 120Hz output on compatible displays.
Samus is ambushed and crashes on an unfamiliar moon. Badly injured, the bounty hunter must cross an underground world to reach the surface. Five Space Ninjas behind the attack are positioned across the labyrinth as major targets.

Counter before you devour
Ravenous is defined by Samus's awakened Metroid powers. She can counter an attack to stun an enemy and then devour it to recover energy. Offence and healing become part of one exchange: accepting the risk of a counter creates a way to survive.
Beams, missiles and movement abilities still support exploration. The system appears to encourage aggression, although the finished game must show how much choice it allows. Our gaming dictionary defines parries, bosses and metroidvanias without pretending every 2D adventure follows the same rules.

A special edition and three amiibo
Standard and special editions launch together. The special edition contains the game, a SteelBook case and a Samus in Metroid Suit figure. Separate Samus and oversized Chozo Statue amiibo will arrive on the same day.
Nintendo has not explained their in-game extras. The US listing confirms amiibo support, cloud saves and an estimated 20.2GB file size. Buyers should wait for exact functionality instead of paying for an unknown advantage.
An exclusive with room to develop
The date leaves more than four months to explain structure, length and accessibility. Ravenous already has a mechanical identity, but it must show whether devouring changes bosses and navigation as strongly as ordinary encounters.
It earns a place among the most anticipated games of 2026 and 2027. The useful reveals between now and January will connect its powers to exploration and the hunt for the five attackers, rather than merely adding more footage.
