Facebook lets you tell its algorithm what you want to see in Feed and Reels

Your algorithm and follow-up questions let people describe their interests. Those instructions join the signals Meta already uses to rank posts.

Meta’s Your algorithm announcement gives Facebook users a way to write down the topics they want in Feed and Reels. Announced on October 13, the rollout adds explicit preferences to the interests Facebook already infers from viewing, sharing and feedback. Meta has not provided a country-by-country or account-specific rollout schedule.

Topics and feedback in the post menu

Meta places Your algorithm in the three-dot menu, where people can add and manage topics. Selecting Interested or Not interested may also lead to follow-up questions about what was appealing or what should appear less often.

The company says recommendations can adapt within the same session. That is its stated behavior, rather than a timing measurement from our own testing or evidence of how many posts a person must scroll through to notice a change.

Text joins the signals used to rank posts

Recommendation systems gather candidate posts and estimate which ones a person might find useful or interesting. Meta’s ranking explanation describes predictions informed by behavior and feedback. The new feature adds written preferences to those inputs.

The result is an ordered selection of posts. It is not a search required to return only the topics entered, and the announcement does not promise to remove every unrelated recommendation.
