Sanctuary begins after the defeat
Blizzard says in its official reveal that Diablo V will arrive in spring 2029. The Lord of Terror is not being saved for the final act: Diablo has already conquered Sanctuary, rules from Westmarch and uses its people in the Eternal Conflict. Players become the Heir to Westmarch, hunted and tied to Diablo through a connection that has not yet been explained.
The date is distant and development remains early. Regular updates are planned from 2027. Our guide to playing the Diablo series in order offers a route to the fifth game without turning every prior release into homework.
A changing world and a home on wheels
The Western Continent uses a procedural landscape: terrain, points of interest, monsters and rewards may change when players return. The idea is to show Diablo continuing to reshape the world, rather than promising a wholly generated campaign.
Towns are no longer the only stable base. A caravan of survivors travels with the protagonist and grows with vendors and companions, including a former Sister of the Sightless Eye and a treasure goblin searching for meaning when wealth has lost its purpose.

Demon Hunter, Monk and Plague Knight
The Demon Hunter returns with dual crossbows. The Monk fights with martial and holy power. The new Plague Knight spreads disease before consuming it for power. More classes will be revealed before launch.
Loot deliberately looks back to Diablo II: stat requirements, large items occupying several inventory slots, gear sets, runes and runewords. Blizzard also wants readable, memorable items. These are design goals rather than finished systems, with more than two years left for changes. The reveal shared the BlizzCon stage with STARCRAFT, another unusually early announcement.
