A return that changes genre
Blizzard confirmed in its BlizzCon 2026 recap that STARCRAFT will return in spring 2030 as an original open-world shooter. The company has only confirmed that it is set in the Koprulu Sector. It has not identified the protagonist, platforms, lead studio or any cooperative structure.
The announcement cinematic is titled Dominion, but Blizzard calls the game simply STARCRAFT. Until a dedicated listing says otherwise, presenting Dominion as a confirmed subtitle would turn a trailer name into a fact.
What it means for StarCraft
The series began as a real-time strategy game and built its identity around terran, zerg and protoss. A shooter does not automatically replace that line. It opens a different entry point into a universe that has gone years without a major single-player release.
The open-world label creates the important questions. Blizzard has not said whether there is one continuous planet or several zones, whether vehicles are controllable, or whether all three factions are playable. The trailer confirms tone and setting, not those features.

A long wait with few promises
Spring 2030 places launch more than three years away. This is an early statement of direction, and systems, platforms or timing can change before full gameplay appears.
StarCraft II still offers Wings of Liberty and part of its multiplayer for free, earning a place in our best free PC games. BlizzCon’s other distant reveal, Diablo V, is scheduled one year earlier if its current window holds.
