Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5 adds an Edgerunners 2 prequel quest and mods on console

The free patch went live October 22 on PC, Mac, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Switch 2 next. Its new quests only require progress in the base game, so Phantom Liberty is optional.

Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5, which CD Projekt Red calls the Edgerunners 2 Update, went live on October 22. It is free for every owner and is out now on PC (Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store), Mac, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version get it in the days that follow, with no exact date, according to the official patch notes. The notes say nothing about Battle.net, where the game is due to launch before the end of 2026.

You do not need Phantom Liberty. Both new quests belong to the base game and open up after The Heist, the mission that closes the prologue. Nothing in the notes ties the new content to the expansion. On PS5 the download is close to 11GB, according to Push Square. CD Projekt has not listed sizes for other platforms.

What update 2.5 adds

The headline addition is Clampdown, a side quest set before Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the anime that premiered on Netflix on October 20. It rewards a five-piece gear set based on King, the name Weak, one of the show's leads, went by in his prime. A new radio station, HKGN 102.0 FM, plays tracks from the series.

In combat, the Double Trouble perk and four supporting perks in the Cool tree let V dual-wield Power pistols and revolvers, something the game never allowed before.

Most of the rest is about looks. Five Glamdoc clinics change how hand cyberware such as Mantis Blades or Gorilla Arms looks without changing what it does. Four clothing vendors stock new outfit sets, with a fifth set coming later. Some hairstyles that only NPCs had are now available to V, and four TWINTONE paint jobs for the Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech are handed out as Twitch Drops, rewards for watching the game on Twitch.

The second quest, Welcome to Paradise, is a guided tour of Night City narrated by the city's founder, Richard Night. Twelve new Minor Arcana tarot cards are scattered across the map, and PS5 and Xbox players finally get a field-of-view slider, which sets how much of the scene fits at the edges of the screen.

How to start the new content

Everything starts from a save that is past The Heist, and each addition then has its own trigger.

1. Clampdown: finish The Heist and two gigs for Wakako, the Westbrook fixer, then wait for her message. 2. Welcome to Paradise: unlocks after The Heist once your Street Cred reaches level 15. 3. Tarot: scan any of the new cards to start an extension of Misty's tarot quest. Collecting all 12 earns a reward. 4. Glamdocs: look for the spray-can icon on the map. 5. Dual pistols: Double Trouble sits in the Cool perk tree. 6. Mods: pick the new Mods option on the main menu.

Mods on PS5 and Xbox, minus trophies

Mods are player-made changes that add quests or rework parts of the game. The Mods option on the main menu lists a curated set of them, hosted on mod.io, the same service The Witcher 3 uses for its mods. CD Projekt calls it a first step toward cross-platform modding and switches it on for PC, Mac, PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, although Switch 2 still has to receive the update.

PS5 had 52 mods on day one, by Push Square's count. They include new quests built from existing scenes, livelier romances and comfort tweaks such as getting through checkpoints like Dogtown's faster. CD Projekt says more will arrive over time.

On console, a modded save cannot earn achievements or trophies, and the game flags it with its own icon. If you care about trophies, try mods on a separate playthrough.

Xbox Play Anywhere and a sale

The game's Xbox Store page now lists Xbox Play Anywhere. A single digital purchase from the Xbox Store or Microsoft Store lets you play on Xbox Series X|S and a Windows PC with the same save, as we explained for Monster Hunter Stories 3. Steam, GOG and Epic copies do not count. CD Projekt has not announced the change. Pure Xbox spotted it on October 21.

The store also has the base game at $17.99, down from $59.99, and the Ultimate Edition with Phantom Liberty at $31.99, down from $79.99. Owners of the base game can add the expansion alone for $17.99 instead of $29.99. On October 23 the store showed 13 days left on the sale, which puts the end around November 5.

Is it worth going back?

That depends on what you want. Update 2.5 brings two side quests, new gear, a new way to fight and a lot of cosmetic options, but nothing on the scale of Phantom Liberty. If you just watched Edgerunners 2, Clampdown is the clearest reason to return, since it covers events before the show and works on an existing late-game save.

On PS5 and Xbox, mods will matter longest because CD Projekt plans to keep adding to the catalog. If you finished the game long ago and do not miss Night City, this update will not change your mind.
