There are maps, and then there's Wake Island. The horseshoe-shaped island was born with the first Battlefield and has returned across half the series since, it's the battlefield where a whole generation learned what this game was about. Well, 24 years after its debut, Battlefield 6 brings it back on August 18 as the centrepiece of Season 4, and the trailer released on the 11th makes clear this is no simple facelift.
Top Gun lands the same day, with the real voices
August 18 also kicks off the Top Gun event, and it's not the usual sticker-pack collaboration: Rooster, Bob and Warlock appear with the original voices of Miles Teller, Lewis Pullman and Charles Parnell, as GameSpot reports, alongside film-inspired cosmetics and the Carrier Strike mode, where one side has to coordinate land, sea and air to sink aircraft carriers.
And the detail that gets me, two-seater jets are back, the F/A-81F Super Spectre and the F-74A Seacat, with a pilot and co-pilot. The last time Battlefield let two people fly the same jet was Battlefield 2, 21 years ago. Between the carrier, the co-pilot and the soundtrack underneath, the Hollywood play is obvious, and I'm entirely fine with it.
The date: August 18 on all platforms, inside the Season 4 'Pacific Front' already under way. We'll be on that beach from minute one, if only to call shotgun on the co-pilot seat.
