Jeffrey Gattis gave a date Amazon is not ready to make official
Amazon had arranged its two Tomb Raider projects like a relay race: Legacy of Atlantis first, then Catalyst in 2027. The remake has already slipped into February. Now a sentence from Amazon's own gaming chief suggests the second game has moved as well.
Jeffrey Gattis does not run all of Amazon: he is the general manager of its gaming division. In an interview with The Game Business, he was explaining the range of projects funded by Amazon Games. When he reached the largest productions, he said: “We've announced the two Tomb Raider titles—Atlantis comes February 12 next year, and then we'll follow on in 2028 with the next one.” The next one can only be Tomb Raider: Catalyst.
This was not a vague promise about the future. Gattis said 2028 while laying out the order of two games published by Amazon. That does not make the date official, but it is too specific to dismiss without a second look.
The official schedule still says 2027—for now
Amazon unveiled both projects in December 2025. Its official announcement still lists Catalyst for 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. After the interview spread, an Amazon representative told Gematsu there were no release-date updates to share.
That statement neither contradicts Gattis nor confirms a delay. He either misspoke, or he revealed an internal schedule the communications team is not ready to announce. My bet is the latter. Executives can get a year wrong; they do it less often while reciting the exact order of two products.
VGC first highlighted the contradiction. Until Crystal Dynamics or Amazon changes its official material, 2027 remains the public window and 2028 is a date attributed directly to the head of its gaming division.
Two Tomb Raider launches in one year always looked crowded
Legacy of Atlantis reimagines the 1996 adventure and is being built by Crystal Dynamics with Flying Wild Hog. Announced for 2026, it now launches on 12 February 2027. Catalyst is the full new entry: in development since 2022, set across Northern India and positioned as the largest Tomb Raider yet.
Releasing both in 2027 would mean two AAA launches, two marketing campaigns and two distinct versions of Lara competing for attention within months. Moving Catalyst into 2028 gives the remake room and extends an Unreal Engine 5 production that has already crossed several difficult years.
The wait hurts because the series has not released a new mainline adventure since Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018. Still, after restructuring and layoffs around Crystal Dynamics, a longer schedule sounds better than a game pushed out to satisfy an old slide.
Amazon now has to correct its head of gaming or correct the date
The next confirmed stop is Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis on 12 February 2027. Catalyst officially retains its 2027 window, even though the person running Amazon's gaming division just placed it one year later on the record.
