Epic Games Store is giving away System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster for Windows. The US price is $0 until Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 11 a.m. EDT / 8 a.m. PDT, or 15:00 UTC. Add it to your account before that cutoff to keep playing after the offer ends.
You do not have to install it this week. Epic’s store FAQ says claimed games remain in your library and describes the claim as acquiring a digital license. That license belongs to the account you use, so keep access to it. Our digital game ownership explainer covers what that distinction means.

The 1999 sequel, updated by Nightdive
This is the remaster of System Shock 2, rather than the remake of the first System Shock. It sends you aboard the Von Braun, where mutants and robots roam the corridors after you wake from cryogenic sleep. First-person shooting sits alongside choices in how you develop your character.
Nightdive’s account of the restoration on Xbox Wire describes higher-resolution menus and interfaces adapted for controllers, including navigating screens and selecting tools. The studio kept the earlier game as its foundation instead of rebuilding the sequel from scratch. Our remake, remaster and reboot guide explains how those approaches differ.
The Epic listing includes English audio and English text, plus Spanish, French, German and Italian text. Claiming this offer gives you the Windows release through Epic. It does not unlock a console edition or add the game to Steam.

How to claim the free copy
Epic’s current support guidance requires an account with two-factor authentication enabled. That adds another verification step when you sign in. You can use the store website to claim the game without downloading it immediately.
- Visit the official System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster listing and check that the price says Free.
- Sign in to the Epic account you want to use for the game, then select Get.
- Follow the store’s claim prompts and check that the total is $0 before confirming. Stop if you see a charge and recheck the edition, your region and the offer’s deadline.
- Look for the remaster in that account’s library to confirm the claim worked. Adding it to a wishlist does not claim the giveaway.
