The update lands on September 29

Star Fox receives a free Switch 2 update on September 29. Nintendo's announcement expands Battle Mode for up to four people on one console, either fighting each other or joining the same team.

A local team can also enter the existing 4v4 online mode, which requires Nintendo Switch Online. The campaign supports two-player co-op, while Battle Mode offers split-screen play for up to four people.

Katina, Sector X and Venom reshape battle

Three stages arrive with distinct objectives. Katina revolves around a powerful laser, Sector X combines asteroids with destructive energy waves, and Venom asks players to scan data modules before escaping a deadly surge.

These are more than backgrounds. Their rules force pilots to choose between pursuing opponents and responding to the map, a useful way to give Battle Mode more lasting variety.

Star Fox Adventures returns another way

Nintendo has also added Star Fox Adventures to Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics. It requires Switch 2 and the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier. Rare's game trades most spacecraft action for exploration, combat and puzzles with Tricky.

The timing brings two very different sides of the series back together. Check Switch 2 game and controller compatibility and our Switch 2 game selection for the account, controller and library requirements before jumping in.

A small update with a clear purpose

Star Fox needed reasons to gather people around the same console. Four players and objective-led stages address that without splitting the audience through paid DLC. September 29 will show whether online performance matches the local promise.
