Steam lists an April-to-June 2027 window
Squadron 42 now has an official Steam page, open for wishlisting and targeting Q2 2027, the April-to-June period. There is no paid preorder, listed price or exact release day. The page gives players another way to follow Cloud Imperium Games’ single-player campaign, rather than public access to play it today.
Players enlist as a rookie in the UEE Navy, moving between fighter cockpits, on-foot combat and life aboard capital ships, stations and frontier outposts. Squadron 42 shares Star Citizen’s universe, but its listing describes a story-led single-player adventure rather than the persistent multiplayer project.

The published minimum PC requirements
The minimum specification lists Windows 11, 16GB of RAM, a DirectX 11.1-compatible graphics card with 8GB of VRAM, and 150GB of available storage. It also requires broadband and a quad-core processor, referencing Intel i7 Sandy Bridge or newer and AMD Bulldozer or newer.
VRAM holds textures and other data used by the graphics card. Our guide to how much VRAM games need explains why it is separate from system RAM. These minimums do not promise a particular resolution, preset or frame rate. The recommended section does not yet provide a complete hardware configuration.

An RSI account is required, but ownership questions remain
Steam flags a required Roberts Space Industries account and support for linking it to a Steam account. That login requirement does not explain Steam access for people who previously bought Squadron 42 through RSI. Account linking alone establishes neither an automatic Steam key nor a need to purchase the game again.
Wishlisting lets you follow announcements without spending money. Check the official listing before linking accounts and keep your Steam account protections in place. Pricing, an exact launch date and access terms for existing buyers remain the details needed for a purchase decision.
