First person changes how players read the fog
Silent Hill: Townfall is no longer the small, mysterious project announced in 2022, but a complete psychological horror adventure that its developers say lasts more than ten hours and launches on September 24, 2026. It will also be the first Silent Hill of this length played entirely in first person.
The story takes place in 1996. Simon Ordell returns to St. Amelia, a fogbound Scottish island, to put something right. Konami's official announcement describes limited weapons and tools, evasion, combat and narrative puzzles. This is not simply the familiar formula with a different camera attached, because seeing less and deciding when to expose yourself are part of the design.
Screen Burn was founded in Glasgow as No Code and previously made Stories Untold and Observation, two games that turned ordinary interfaces into sources of tension. That history explains Townfall better than a quick comparison to Resident Evil 7: this team knows how to make pressing a button feel like a bad idea.
Players can block attacks, use firearms or melee weapons and lure enemies with sound, while their actions alter the story and lead to multiple endings. We find that freedom compelling, although it creates the game's biggest risk: the more capable Simon becomes in a fight, the harder it will be to preserve his vulnerability.
A pocket television replaces the radio
The device connecting those ideas is called the CRTV, a pocket television that tunes into unstable signals to detect threats, uncover pieces of the story and find puzzle clues. It replaces Silent Hill's familiar radio, except now players must look down at one screen while something may be approaching in the other.
Annapurna summarises the premise with a precise command, “fear the truth behind the static,” while Pilotpriest's dynamic soundtrack responds to the behaviour of both player and enemies. First person narrows the field of view, the CRTV demands attention and sound becomes information, three coherent choices that let Townfall distinguish itself without abandoning the anxiety of the best modern horror games.
The television only works if consulting it carries a cost. If danger pauses whenever Simon looks down, the static becomes a map filter rather than a threat.

Release date, platforms, editions and cast
Silent Hill: Townfall launches on September 24, 2026 for PS5 and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Jovan Adepo, Terry O'Quinn and Kezia Burrows lead the cast. PS5 gets a standard physical release, while standard and Deluxe editions will be sold digitally. The Deluxe edition includes 48-hour early access, opening the game on September 22.
GAME will offer an exclusive SteelBook with physical copies in Spain while stocks last, although no price appears in the official information available at publication. Its September 24 launch also coincides with Control Resonant, one of the month's major games, creating a difficult week for anyone planning to play both immediately.
Townfall no longer has to prove it is substantial enough to carry the name. It is. Everything now depends on combat, stealth and the CRTV keeping players uncomfortable across a full adventure, even after they understand its rules.
