How much PlayStation Plus costs and what Essential includes in 2026

Sony raised the monthly and three-month prices on May 20, 2026. The table below shows the current Spanish prices and makes the real saving obvious: every tier costs far less when paid annually rather than month by month.

Monthly billing is useful for a trial and expensive as a permanent choice. Essential rises from €71.99 to €119.88 across twelve monthly payments; Extra from €125.99 to €191.88; Premium from €151.99 to €227.88. If you know you are staying, buy the year.

Essential includes online multiplayer for most paid PS4 and PS5 games, three monthly games, member discounts, 100GB of cloud storage, Share Play and selected bonus content.

Many free-to-play games do not require PS Plus online. Monthly games must be claimed while available and remain playable only while you keep an active membership.

Essential suits players who buy their own games and mainly use PS Plus as the online fee. It is still worth claiming every monthly game, including the August 2026 selection, even when you do not install it immediately.

The uncomfortable part is paying €71.99 mainly for multiplayer unless the monthly games replace purchases you would genuinely have made.

Extra is the sweet spot because €54 more unlocks hundreds of games

PlayStation Plus Extra contains everything in Essential and adds the Game Catalogue, with hundreds of downloadable PS4 and PS5 titles, plus Ubisoft+ Classics.

The annual gap is €54, or €4.50 a month. Play two medium-priced games you would otherwise have bought and the upgrade can already pay for itself.

That is why Extra is my default recommendation. It lets you try unfamiliar genres and smaller games without holding a financial meeting with yourself every time something costs €30.

But catalogue games are not monthly games. When a title leaves Extra or Premium, access disappears even if it remains installed. DLC works again when you buy the base game or it returns.

It is a rental library, not a collection. The same logic applies to the monthly arrivals and departures on Xbox Game Pass: what leaves matters almost as much as what arrives.

Even with that caveat, Extra is the most balanced plan for regular players.

Premium adds classics, trials and cloud gaming: which plan should you buy?

PlayStation Plus Premium includes everything in Extra, then adds classics, timed trials, cloud streaming on PS5, PC and supported devices, plus the Sony Pictures Catalogue.

It costs €26 more per year than Extra. That sounds small, which is exactly why Premium is so easy to buy 'just in case'.

Classics vary by title and region. Trials keep progress and trophies if you buy the full game. Cloud streaming starts compatible games without a full download; Sony requires 5Mbps and recommends 15Mbps for 1080p, although stability matters more than a pretty speed-test result.

Premium is worthwhile when you regularly use classics, trials or cloud streaming. If you mainly want modern downloadable games, Extra gives you the important part for less.

I have fallen for the 'it is only €26 more' argument before. Twelve months later, you discover you opened two trials and played a PS3 game for twenty minutes. Excellent business for Sony.

Choose Essential when online multiplayer and monthly games are enough. Choose Extra when you play regularly and want to reduce individual purchases. Choose Premium only when you can name two Premium features you will use.

You can upgrade by paying the proportional difference for the remaining term. Downgrades take effect when the current billing period ends.

My recommendation: Extra for most people, Essential for online-only players and Premium for people who genuinely use cloud gaming, classics or trials.

If you cannot justify the extra €26 before paying, Sony has already won it.
