Wuhu Island returns on October 22

Nintendo releases Nintendo Switch Sports Resort exclusively for Switch 2 on October 22. The official announcement confirms twelve motion-controlled sports and a major change in scale: Wuhu Island can be explored freely.

The home of Wii Sports Resort is no longer just scenery. Players can chase dolphins, look for hibiscus flowers and collect Spocco Photos explaining landmarks. Exploration joins the events instead of presenting them as disconnected menu tiles.

Twelve sports and an offline campaign

Island Crown provides offline progression in every sport, culminating in challenges against Island Champions and Legends. It addresses a weakness of the previous game, where much of the reward loop depended on online play.

The line-up includes Tennis, Bowling, Archery, Boxing, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Basketball, Golf, Thumb Wrestling, Prop Plane, Skateboarding and Power Cruising. Nintendo has not explained how long each Island Crown ladder lasts.

Spocco Points fund customisation

Playing any sport in any mode earns Spocco Points for Mii and Sportsmate customisation. Letting offline sessions pay into the same reward system prevents cosmetics from being locked behind matches with strangers.

The sequel supports Joy-Con 2 and original Joy-Con controllers, although the older pair cannot use mouse controls. Our guide to Switch 2 game and controller compatibility and our Switch 2 game selection explain which older controllers remain useful and which accessories no longer fit.

Exploration is the defining idea

Twelve sports create breadth, but turning Wuhu Island into a recognisable place could give Resort its identity. If discovery and collecting connect the events properly, this sequel may solve what felt anonymous about the first Switch Sports.
