The major expansion arrives in 2027 with Master Rank, new regions and a free prologue demo whose progress carries over.

An expansion continuing the story years later

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance arrives in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Capcom describes it as a large paid expansion: the base game is required, Master Rank is added and the story resumes several years after the original campaign.

Lao-Shan Lung's attack sets events in motion. Hunters travel to the fortified Madoi Stronghold and reunite with an adult Nata and Bangard. From there they reach Skybound Eyrie, a region suspended in the sky that gives the Forbidden Lands a striking new vertical dimension.

Araketa and Gundoraja bring different threats

Araketa is a pack bird wyvern that can exploit air currents. Gundoraja is an Elder Dragon able to manipulate storm clouds. Those ideas, coordinated aerial attacks and weather control, suggest hunts built around reading the space rather than only memorising attack strings.

The trailer also brings back Lao-Shan Lung, a creature associated with huge siege encounters. For more combat and progression-heavy games, see our selection of the best RPGs on PS5 and PC.

Boost Bracer and the entry requirements

The new Boost Bracer connects to the Slinger and temporarily enhances all 14 weapon types. Capcom has not disclosed every effect yet. The key question is whether it creates new tactical choices or merely another damage window.

Starting Ascendance requires Hunter Rank 40 and completion of Awaking From a Dream. A free Prologue Demo lets players test all 14 weapons, with progress carrying into the expansion. That is a useful way to judge whether Master Rank is for you before paying.

What remains unconfirmed

There is no exact release date, price or expansion-specific PC requirement list. The full Master Rank scope and monster roster are also unknown. Any listing claiming that pre-orders are live should therefore be checked against Capcom's own channels.

Ascendance now sits among our most anticipated releases of 2026 and 2027. This announcement has lasting value because it provides a clear route: finish Wilds, reach rank 40 and use the demo to decide whether to make the jump.
