MegaPals crowns two winners in Jackbox Party Pack 12, with at least three players

Matching words builds the winning partnership in Jackbox’s new party game. Phones handle the answers, but everyone still needs to see the host’s screen.

MegaPals turns matching answers into a shared victory. The new word game in The Jackbox Party Pack 12 crowns a pair, but its official player count is three to eight. Players build their partnerships through the answers they share during the session rather than choosing a permanent teammate before it starts.

That minimum matters if you are planning a two-person game night. For a pair playing on PS5, our two-player co-op selection offers alternatives suited to that group size. MegaPals is one of five games in the pack, so its three-player minimum should not be applied to the entire collection.

The group supplies its next prompts

Jackbox’s MegaPals page describes a 45-second opening round in which players submit words in response to a prompt. Matching another player earns points. The second round starts with a fresh prompt. Once matches have been shown, players vote on the unmatched answers, with the leading choice becoming the next prompt. What the group writes changes what everyone responds to next.

In her October 2 Xbox Wire feature, game director Alina Constantin explains the map shown between rounds. It links each player to their highest-scoring partner, helping the group see which connections are strongest and whom to try matching next. Those connections reflect the game’s answers, not a real-world assessment of friendship.

Phones provide answers, while the host provides the game

The official setup guide requires one host to own and install the game. Friends enter the room code at jackbox.tv on a phone or another browser-equipped device. Everyone also needs to see the host’s game screen, so joining with a phone does not provide a separate full-screen game on that phone.

Remote groups need a way to share the host’s screen. Jackbox’s remote-play support page lists Steam Remote Play Together as one option. Our invitation and host-PC guide explains that streaming setup, and Jackbox players still submit their answers through the browser. Steam currently lists English interface, audio and subtitles only, a limitation to check before inviting a multilingual group.

The publisher announced an October 15 release for The Jackbox Party Pack 12. Its English Steam listing instead displays October 14, 2026, without an explanation for the difference. Check the host’s chosen storefront before arranging a launch-day session.
