The trailer opens with Logan inches away from attacking Jean Grey
Jean Grey tries to enter Logan's mind. He shoves her into a wall and stops his claws just short of her face. Insomniac could have opened with an explosion or a towering boss. Instead, it shows a hero who can frighten the people standing beside him.
The studio premiered its new story trailer at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23. It confirms The Hand as an enemy faction, introduces Lady Deathstrike as a major villain and pushes Logan's uneasy relationship with Jean toward the center of the story.
Marvel’s Wolverine arrives exclusively on PS5 on 15 September 2026. Five years after that first teaser showed little beyond a wrecked bar and a set of claws, Insomniac finally has a date, a combat system and a story willing to bare its teeth.
Insomniac is putting distance between Wolverine and Spider-Man — with blood
The comparison is unavoidable. The camera, speed and some finishers carry traces of Marvel’s Spider-Man, but the rhythm changes the moment Logan catches his first enemy. He does not dodge a roomful of attacks while firing off jokes. He drags mercenaries across the floor and uses his claws like a man who stopped pretending they were defensive tools years ago.
Insomniac calls it a brutal, violent single-player adventure. June's gameplay reveal showed dismemberment, targeted damage, visible regeneration and team finishers with Jean Grey. Rage fuels special techniques or Logan's healing factor when a fight turns ugly.
A long campaign cannot live on gruesome animations alone. The violence has to tell us how much control Logan retains and why his allies are afraid of him. That opening confrontation suggests Insomniac understands the difference.

Lady Deathstrike and The Hand make the trip to Japan personal
The story follows the capture and persecution of mutants. The cybernetic Reavers work for Bolivar Trask, an industrialist obsessed with human superiority, while Jean leads mutants fighting to survive and Team X faces its darkest hour.
The new trailer adds The Hand and Lady Deathstrike. The ninja organization fits the Japanese leg of the journey; Yuriko Oyama provides an opponent capable of making adamantium feel less like Logan's automatic advantage. Madripoor and the frozen Canadian wilderness also feature, alongside Mystique, Sabretooth and Omega Red.
That is a crowded cast. Spider-Man 2 already struggled to give every storyline enough room, and Wolverine cannot afford another procession of villains waiting for their cutscene.
A digital prequel comic on Marvel Unlimited, written by narrative director Walt Williams, follows an earlier Team X mission. David Fleming's soundtrack will arrive on 28 August, a little over two weeks before the game.
On 15 September, PS5 may finally get its defining exclusive of the year
The standard edition costs €79.99 in Spain and includes a physical release. The €89.99 Digital Deluxe edition adds five suits, five claw designs and three technique points. The cosmetics are exclusive, while pre-order items can also be earned through normal play.
PlayStation has released excellent games this generation, but relatively few exclusives have felt like an event built specifically for PS5. Wolverine is not a new character, yet it could reveal a very different Insomniac after years of Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank.
My concern is not whether the claws feel good. Insomniac knows how to make a controller sing. The harder job is writing Logan as a man whose saddest power is surviving everything that should have finished him.
The trailer gets that. We will know on 15 September whether the full game does too.
