Faye finally has a date on the calendar
Sony has confirmed that *God of War Laufey will launch for PS5 on February 16, 2027*. The game is available to wishlist through its official PlayStation page, although pricing, editions and a possible PC version remain unannounced.
The date arrived during San Diego Comic-Con, less than two months after Santa Monica Studio revealed the project. It places one of PlayStation's major exclusives near the beginning of 2027—and drops it into a February release calendar that suddenly looks much more crowded.
Laufey is not an expansion built to fill the space between two Kratos games. PlayStation introduced it as the next mainline entry in the God of War series, directed by Ariel Lawrence with Cory Barlog serving as Santa Monica Studio's head of creative. Faye is finally at the center of a story the two Norse games could only reveal through memories, secondhand accounts and the consequences of her plans.
The next God of War belongs to Kratos—and it follows Laufey
The release date was not the panel's only major announcement. Barlog confirmed that *another Kratos-led God of War will follow Laufey* and connect directly to Faye's story, according to IGN's report from Comic-Con.
There is no title, release date, platform list or image for that project yet. We do not know how long the gap between the games will be, either. What changes today is the way Laufey fits into the series: her adventure is not being sealed off in the past. Whatever happens there will continue to matter when Kratos returns to the lead.
That connection follows what Santa Monica Studio had been saying since June. Barlog said there would always be more Kratos stories while describing Faye as one part of a much larger tapestry. Now the order is clear: first we learn what she endured, then we find out what it means for him.
Faye's death becomes the beginning of her journey
The story begins after the funeral that opens 2018's God of War. Faye wakes in the Everywhen, an afterlife inhabited by gods from several mythologies, and learns that the plans she left to protect Kratos and Atreus are in danger. Her journey home brings her into conflict with figures including the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet and the Tibetan deity Begtse.
Deborah Ann Woll plays Faye, joined by Jack Quaid as Phranque and Perlina Lau as Rue. Christopher Judge is also credited as Kratos. The cast appeared with Lawrence and Barlog during PlayStation's official Comic-Con panel.
Faye fights with a legendary sword and powers that manipulate souls. She can separate an enemy's spirit from its body, part of a combat system Santa Monica says will combine the speed and fluidity of the Greek games with the world-building and character work of the Norse era. The goal is not to dress another character in Kratos' move set. Faye is being given her own rhythm, weapons and choices.
February 16 will tell us how deep the connection runs
Santa Monica is still holding back plenty. It has not shown an extended gameplay sequence, explained how the Everywhen is structured or revealed how much of Kratos and Atreus we will see. Confirmation of the next game also gives fans a reason to inspect every scene for clues about the series' future.
My guess is that Laufey's ending will matter to Kratos' return more than its placement in the past suggests. That is speculation, not an announced plot detail: Barlog has confirmed only that the two stories connect. The nature of that connection—emotional, mythological or something much larger—remains unknown.
For now, we have a firm date and an enticing promise. Faye comes to PS5 on February 16, 2027. Kratos' next journey will begin, in some fashion, when hers ends.
