Control Resonant replaces easy or hard with granular control over combat friction

Remedy expands Assist Mode with aggression, damage, dodge, recovery and extreme options without disabling trophies.

New combat needs more than three difficulty labels

Control Resonant replaces Jesse's gunplay with the Aberrant, Dylan's shape-shifting melee weapon. Remedy describes close-range fights built around reading attacks, status effects and posture breaks. Assist Mode therefore targets individual sources of friction.

Lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov's official explanation avoids an easy-mode label. Players first encounter the intended rhythm, then enable, disable or refine settings at any time. Presets provide a starting point.

Every setting confirmed

Players can tune enemy aggression, perfect-dodge timing, projectile speed and incoming damage. Separate controls change Dylan's outgoing damage and falter, power recovery speed and enhanced melee magnetizing.

Immortality, one-hit kills and one-hit falters are available for those focused on story or exploration. None disables trophies or achievements. Remedy would rather let players remove one barrier than stop playing.

It can make the game harder too

Unlike the first Control, several sliders move in both directions. Players can raise aggression, narrow the perfect-dodge window or take more damage. One menu covers accessibility, comfort and advanced challenge without forcing everyone into one package.

Granularity is the point. One player can preserve default damage and resources but slow projectiles. Another can demand tighter timing while keeping fast power recovery. That is more useful than hiding every choice behind Normal or Hard.

Release date and where to begin

Control Resonant launches September 24 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with GeForce NOW at launch and Mac later in 2026. Dylan Faden faces a crisis warping Manhattan while Jesse is missing.

Remedy calls it both a sequel and a new entry point, though the Oldest House provides valuable context. A new protagonist and close-range combat make fixing one source of friction more useful than lowering every challenge. Our Control, DLC, Firebreak and Resonant play order separates essentials from optional material. We also explain DLC, expansions and season passes.
