Claude Opus 5 today? No one confirms it, but everything lines up a little too neatly

Several posts on X point to today, 24 July, as the date for Anthropic's new model. The calendar fits and there is even betting involved, although for now there is no official announcement.

The rumour lands just as Anthropic needs to complete the Claude 5 family

Posts on X point to a possible Claude Opus 5 launch today, 24 July. There is no official announcement, but prediction markets are betting on an imminent release.

Sonnet 5 launched on 30 June and Fable 5 and Mythos 5 already exist; Opus officially remains at 4.8. The line-up is conspicuously incomplete — and Opus 4.7's fast mode retires today.

Opus 5 would need to do more than win a few benchmarks

Sonnet 5 already offers a million-token context window and strong agentic coding. A slightly better Opus would be hard to justify.

The new model should own long tasks where Sonnet can still lose precision — and Anthropic must price it so it neither cannibalises Sonnet nor becomes irrelevant.

Reasons to believe it, reasons to wait

Anthropic ships without endless campaigns — Sonnet 5 appeared with a direct post and immediate availability. But nothing official mentions a new Opus yet.

My bet: Opus 5 is close, though the date is not guaranteed. If the rumour is right, the real bar is whether it makes Sonnet 5 look insufficient.
