Assassin's Creed Valhalla gets New Game+ on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, through a game update. Ubisoft's announcement on Steam says the mode lets you restart Eivor's saga from the beginning with much of your progress intact, and enemies get their own scaling for the second run. The update also brings mithril, a new resource, Divine quality, a new upgrade tier for every item, and a Master Assassin outfit based on Naoe, the lead of Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Ubisoft is saving the launch time, the platform list and the unlock steps for the patch notes, which had not been posted as of Nov. 2.
The feature lands six years after Valhalla launched and four years after Ubisoft said no to it. In November 2022, when it announced the game's final content update, the publisher said it would not be adding New Game+. Now Ubisoft calls it one of the community's most requested features and ties it to Valhalla passing 40 million players. In its fall Assassin's Creed update, Ubisoft also said no other remake is in development after Black Flag Resynced.
What the Nov. 5 update adds
Here is Ubisoft's list:
- An optional progression mode in which gear, runes and masteries count toward Eivor's overall Power. - Mithril, a resource for upgrading Divine gear and strengthening runes. - Divine quality for all items. - New runes, achievements and rewards, plus a stash system Ubisoft has not explained yet. - A Master Assassin outfit inspired by Naoe's clothing.
Power is the number the game checks against each region's recommended level to warn you when an area is too tough. With the optional mode on, upgrading a sword or slotting a rune will count toward that number. Ubisoft hasn't said how much each piece adds, or how you unlock the Naoe outfit.

What we know about carryover
Ubisoft says only that New Game+ transfers much of your progression. It hasn't listed what stays and what resets, or whether gear and progress from the three expansions, Wrath of the Druids, The Siege of Paris and Dawn of Ragnarök, come along.
Ubisoft mentions dedicated scaling for the second run, which suggests enemies are tuned for an Eivor who starts out already geared up. It hasn't shared enemy levels or difficulty numbers.
The closest precedent is Assassin's Creed Odyssey. When it added New Game+ in February 2019, Ubisoft required players to finish the main story and added a menu option that copied an eligible save into a New Game+ run, keeping gear, upgrades, abilities, currency and mounts. Ubisoft hasn't said Valhalla will work the same way.
How to get ready before Nov. 5
If you haven't reached the credits, finishing the main story is the safest bet, since Odyssey required it. If you already have, load that save and make a manual save in an empty slot before starting New Game+. That leaves you a fallback whatever the mode does with your original file.
Make sure automatic updates are enabled on your console or PC launcher so the patch downloads as soon as Ubisoft releases it. Once the notes are out, check them for the exact requirement and for what moves into the new run.
Platforms and launch time
Valhalla came out on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, and its last update, version 1.7.0 in February 2023, hit all five platforms at once. Ubisoft hasn't published a platform list for New Game+. Its fall update only promises news about updates on current-generation consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, in the coming days.
There's no launch time either. For reference, version 1.7.0 rolled out at 12 p.m. UTC, which on Nov. 5 would be 7 a.m. ET and 4 a.m. PT, but Ubisoft isn't bound to use the same slot.
If you don't own the game, the standard edition is $59.99 on Steam. Thursday is also the busiest day of the week, with Ocarina of Time and Stellar Blade arriving on Switch 2, as our weekly release roundup shows.

Frequently asked questions
When does Assassin's Creed Valhalla New Game+ come out?
Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, through a game update. Ubisoft hasn't given a time. For reference, Valhalla's previous update, version 1.7.0 in February 2023, went live on every platform at once at 12 p.m. UTC, which would be 7 a.m. ET on Nov. 5.
Is Valhalla New Game+ free?
Ubisoft is rolling it out as part of a game update and hasn't mentioned a price or limited it to any edition, so anyone who owns Valhalla should get it by updating. If you don't own the game, the standard edition costs $59.99 on Steam.
Do you have to finish the story to start New Game+?
Ubisoft hasn't said, and the details are due in the patch notes. Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which got the mode in 2019, required players to complete the main story, so finishing it before Thursday, Nov. 5, is the safest way to be able to start on day one.
What is mithril in Assassin's Creed Valhalla?
Mithril is the new resource arriving with the Nov. 5 update. Ubisoft says it upgrades Divine-quality gear, which now extends to every item, and strengthens runes. Where you find it and how much each upgrade costs are still unknown.
Is New Game+ coming to PS4 and Xbox One?
That isn't confirmed. Valhalla launched on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, and its previous update reached all five. Ubisoft hasn't published a platform list for New Game+ and says news about current-generation consoles is coming in the next few days.
How do you get the Naoe outfit in Valhalla?
Ubisoft lists it among the new rewards in the Nov. 5 update but hasn't explained how to unlock it. It's a Master Assassin outfit for Eivor based on what Naoe wears in Assassin's Creed Shadows, not a playable character.
