Phantom Blade Zero sells over 4 million copies in 72 hours with no Xbox or physical release

S-GAME has shared the game's first three days of sales on PS5 and PC. That's well short of Black Myth: Wukong's 10 million over the same stretch, and the studio isn't saying how sales split between platforms.

Phantom Blade Zero sold more than 4 million copies in its first 72 hours, developer S-GAME announced on the game's official X account on the evening of November 1, U.S. time. The martial arts action game launched worldwide on Wednesday, October 28, at 7 p.m. PT (10 p.m. ET) on PS5 and on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Its first 72 hours ended at the same time on October 31, a day before the announcement.

Every one of those copies was sold on just two platforms. There's no Xbox version, and the boxed PS5 edition isn't due until 2027, so all 4 million were digital purchases. S-GAME hasn't broken the number down by platform or region, or said how many buyers picked the $69.99 Digital Deluxe Edition.

How it stacks up against Wukong and Requiem

The closest comparison is Black Myth: Wukong, another action game from a Chinese studio that launched on PS5 and PC. Game Science said in August 2024 that Wukong had sold 10 million copies in three days, which puts Phantom Blade Zero at 40% of that pace.

Capcom's Resident Evil Requiem passed 5 million units, according to a March 4 investor release that came five days after its February 27 launch. Requiem was on four platforms, though: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. Black Flag Resynced moved more slowly, with Ubisoft reporting 2 million copies on day one and 3 million after a week.

Publishers pick when and how to announce these milestones, and none of the numbers are audited. They place Phantom Blade Zero among this year's biggest launches, but they're too loose to say exactly which game sold fastest.

Copies sold vs. players online

On Steam, the game drew more than 830,000 simultaneous players over the weekend, according to SteamDB, a site that logs public Steam activity. That peak only counts accounts running the game at one moment, and only on Steam, so PS5 and Epic players are left out. Anyone who owned it but wasn't playing at that exact moment isn't counted either, which is why a peak always lands below total sales. Our story on Steam's concurrent user record explains how those counts work.

By the same measure, Wukong topped 2.4 million concurrent Steam players in 2024, nearly three times Phantom Blade Zero's peak.

What it is and what it costs

Phantom Blade Zero is the first console and PC game from S-GAME, a Beijing studio that previously made Phantom Blade games for phones. You play Soul, an assassin with 66 days left to live who has been framed for his master's murder, and the combat is modeled on Hong Kong martial arts movies.

The standard edition costs $59.99 on Steam and the PlayStation Store. Voice acting is in English and Chinese. Players seem happy with it so far, with 89% of user reviews on the game's Steam page positive as of November 2. If you're still on the fence, our roundup of the reviews covers what critics loved, mainly the combat and boss fights, and their biggest complaint, a story that's hard to follow.
