The short answer for September 22
Dune: Awakening reaches PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, 2026, but every player will not share one server at launch. Funcom has confirmed the console date and a new single-player mode, while initially keeping several ecosystems apart.
Xbox Series can play with the Microsoft Store version on Windows. Steam remains separate, and PS5 will not connect to the other pools at launch. Friends split between PlayStation and Steam, or PlayStation and Xbox, should not buy it expecting to meet on Arrakis that week.
Precision matters because saying the game is launching 'without crossplay' is now incomplete. Funcom has confirmed that broad cross-platform play is coming after release, but it has not provided a date.
What this means for characters and friends
Separate servers can leave one platform busier than another and force clans to choose where they begin. Funcom has not detailed universal cross-progression either, so nobody should assume a Steam character can move to PS5 when wider crossplay arrives.
Groups that want to play together should buy on matching platforms. Our list of the best PS5 co-op games contains alternatives whose connections already work today.

The promise still needs a date
Post-launch crossplay is better than no plan, but it does not fix launch week for a divided group. Until Funcom publishes a schedule, buy for what works on September 22 and treat everything else as a future improvement.
Dune joins a crowded month covered in our guide to the best games of September 2026. The single-player mode reduces dependence on servers, although Awakening's defining appeal remains building a shared life on Arrakis.
