EA shut down BioWare on October 21 and canceled the next Mass Effect, as we reported in our story on the closure. The studio's games did not go with it. As of October 23, 2026, every major BioWare game is still for sale except Anthem, which stopped working in January because it could only be played online through EA's servers.
Other companies now sell and update the Dungeons & Dragons and Star Wars classics, so the closure doesn't touch them. The games EA published remain on Steam, the EA app, the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store, and five of them come with EA Play, EA's subscription, which costs $5.99 a month or $39.99 a year according to Jade Empire's Steam page.
Prices below are US Steam list prices checked on October 23 unless another store is named. Console prices move more often because of sales.
Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights
Beamdog maintains the enhanced editions of BioWare's Dungeons & Dragons RPGs and sells them on console and mobile too. You view the action from above and fights run in real time, but you can pause whenever you like to give each character orders. None of them needs BioWare's servers for the campaign.
- Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition (originally 1998). $19.99 on Steam for PC, Mac and Linux, and also on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, iOS and Android, per Beamdog.
- Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition (originally 2000). $19.99 on Steam on the same platforms. It picks up the first game's story, and on PlayStation the two are sold as a bundle.
- Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition (originally 2002). $19.99 on Steam for PC, Mac and Linux. The Xbox version costs $49.99 because console editions bundle ten premium adventure modules, against three on PC, per Beamdog.

KOTOR, KOTOR II and The Old Republic
Aspyr handles the Knights of the Old Republic ports, including the Switch and mobile versions. The Old Republic, an online game where many players share the same world, has been developed by Broadsword since BioWare handed it over in June 2023, GameSpot reported at the time.
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003). $9.99 on Steam for PC and Mac, and $9.99 on Xbox through backward compatibility, which lets current consoles run games from older generations. It's also on Switch, iOS and Android, per Aspyr. No subscription includes it and it doesn't rely on servers.
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II (2004). $9.99 on Steam for PC, Mac and Linux, plus Switch, iOS and Android. Obsidian made this one, not BioWare, but the story follows on from the first.
- Star Wars: The Old Republic (2011). Free to start on PC through Steam or the EA app, with an optional subscription that unlocks more content. The servers are live. The official site posted updates on October 14 and is running a seasonal objectives event from October 13 to November 9. Sixty days of game time cost $29.98 on Steam.

Jade Empire and the Mass Effect games
Jade Empire, Mass Effect Legendary Edition and Mass Effect: Andromeda are EA games. EA Play includes the first two on at least one platform, and none of the three needs servers for the campaign.
- Jade Empire: Special Edition (originally 2005). $14.99 on Steam, Windows only, and included with EA Play there. Xbox sells the original version for $9.99 through backward compatibility.
- Mass Effect Legendary Edition (2021). The original trilogy, remastered, minus Mass Effect 3's multiplayer. It's $59.99 on Steam and on the PlayStation Store, where it's a PS4 game that runs on PS5. On Xbox One and Series X|S it's marked down to $14.99 from $59.99 until early November. EA Play covers it on PlayStation and Xbox, per its PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listings.
- Mass Effect: Andromeda - Deluxe Edition (2017). $39.99 on Steam, Windows only. The fourth game tells a separate story, so you don't need the trilogy first.
Dragon Age, from Origins to The Veilguard
All four Dragon Age games are still on sale, and the first three come in complete editions with their expansions and story DLC.
- Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition (2009). $29.99 on Steam, Windows only, with the Awakening expansion. EA also sells it on the EA app and Xbox. We couldn't confirm whether EA Play includes it.
- Dragon Age II: Ultimate Edition (2011). $29.99 on Steam, Windows only. On Xbox it's $19.99, playable on Xbox One and Series X|S through backward compatibility, and included with EA Play.
- Dragon Age: Inquisition - Game of the Year Edition (2014). $39.99 on Steam, where EA Play includes it. It's also $39.99 on Xbox One and on PS4, though on PlayStation EA Play only takes 10% off.
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard (2024). $59.99 on Steam and sold on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It's single-player only. It joined EA Play, and with it Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, on August 28, 2025.
Anthem is gone
Anthem, the 2019 co-op shooter, is the one BioWare game you can no longer play. EA turned off its servers on January 12, 2026, and because it was built as an online-only game there is no offline mode, according to EA's official notice. EA had already stopped selling its premium currency on July 3, 2025, and pulled the game from EA Play on August 15 that year.
Owners still see it in their libraries, but it won't load into a match. That is the situation the proposed Power To The Players Act is meant to address for games that die when their servers go dark.
Which subscription covers which game
EA Play is the only subscription that bundles several BioWare games: Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Dragon Age II, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Jade Empire. It comes with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, but not with Game Pass Essential or Premium, per Xbox's Game Pass page.
The lineup differs by platform. Inquisition is included on PC but not on PS4, for example, so check that the store page says "Included with EA Play" before paying for a month. None of the PlayStation listings we checked include these games in PS Plus.
Where to start
If you've never played a BioWare game, pick by the kind of story you want and the hardware you already own.
- Science fiction where your choices carry across games: Mass Effect Legendary Edition. The cheapest route right now is the Xbox sale at $14.99 through early November, or one month of EA Play on PlayStation or Xbox at $5.99 if you're happy to play it while subscribed.
- Dark fantasy with tactical combat: Dragon Age: Origins, $29.99 on PC. Dragon Age II and Inquisition continue in the same world.
- Star Wars on almost any screen: Knights of the Old Republic, $9.99 on Steam and also on Switch and phones.
- If you loved Baldur's Gate 3: start with Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, whose story continues in the sequel. Our Baldur's Gate 3 review covers what it shares with these classics.
- Playing with other people for free: Star Wars: The Old Republic, free to start on PC.
- If you already pay for Game Pass: Game Pass Ultimate covers Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Dragon Age II and The Veilguard on Xbox. PC Game Pass covers The Veilguard.
