Nine games, several different dates
The official July PlayStation Plus catalogue adds Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Rise of the Ronin, Firefighting Simulator: Ignite, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, Dying Light, Citizen Sleeper 2 and Snow Bros. Wonderland. Premium also gets PS2 titles Psi-Ops and Indigo Prophecy.
Dates vary. Rise of the Ronin arrived July 15 in the US and UK and July 16 in Japan; Avatar, Firefighting Simulator and both classics go global on July 21. Several other titles land July 28 in selected markets. Sony says the full line-up is available July 21 elsewhere and warns that catalogues vary by region.
Why Avatar and Ronin make sense
Avatar is an immediate visual showcase; Rise of the Ronin is a PlayStation-associated release many players postponed while waiting for a discount. They make the catalogue feel expensive at a glance. But two very long open worlds can also turn value into backlog, so duration and availability matter more than the raw game count.
The physical-media context cannot be ignored
Sony says it will stop producing discs for all new PlayStation releases from January 2028. Existing releases are unaffected, but future games will be sold in digital form only. That removes resale and lending through an object the player controls, while making access more dependent on accounts, servers and licensing decisions.
There is no evidence that Avatar joined Plus specifically because of that change. The strategic connection is still clear: a stronger digital catalogue makes a disc-free future easier to accept. Subscription access can be excellent value without being the same as ownership.
Where we would start
Choose Rita's Rewind for a short session, Rise of the Ronin for demanding action, Citizen Sleeper 2 for writing and choice, and Psi-Ops for an older form of physics-led experimentation. Check your regional date before downloading—and pay as much attention to Sony's 2028 decision as to this month's attractive list.
